Pearl

Pearl is a hard, rounded formation extracted from the shells of some molluscs . Valuable as a gem and used to make jewelry . Pearl is formed inside a clam shell as a result of being hit there is a foreign object (grains of sand, etc.). Quality classifier pearls , most commonly used in Europe looks like this:

• quality A: dull gloss, mother-of-pearl layer within 0.5 mm., irregular shape, diameter less than 10 mm., many visible defects;
• quality A +: dull gloss, mother-of-pearl layer within 0.5 mm, irregular shape, diameter less than 10 mm, a significant part of the surface is defective;
• quality A ++: moderate gloss, mother-of-pearl layer within 0.5 mm., irregular shape, diameter less than 10 mm., the surface has visible defects in a small amount;
• AA quality: good gloss, mother-of-pearl layer up to 1 mm., the shape is close to spherical, any diameter, the surface has barely visible defects on almost every pearl;
• quality AA +: very good gloss (minimum of cloudy spots), a thick layer of mother-of-pearl, not chipped off upon impact, almost spherical, no more than 5% of visible surface defects (in this case, pits, chips, grooves);
• kaEssence AA ++: excellent gloss, thick layer of mother-of-pearl, not chipped off upon impact, almost spherical shape, no more than 5% of visible surface defects (in this case - pits, chips, grooves);
• AAA quality: gem quality, for such pearls a certificate is required (conclusions of a gemologist based on X-ray and spectroanalysis) for each thread / a pearl . Products made from such pearls from a distance look like glass, have a dazzling shine and perfect shape, the thickness of mother-of-pearl in them is at least 1-1.5 mm.
