Quartz (German Quarz ) is one of the most widespread minerals in the earth's crust, a rock-forming mineral of most magmatic and metamorphic rocks. In its pure form, quartz is colorless or has a white color due to internal cracks and crystal defects. Impurity elements and microscopic inclusions of other minerals, mainly iron oxides, give it a wide variety of colors. Minerals and varieties of quartz : Aventurine - yellowish or shimmering brownish red , Agate - layered-banded variety of chalcedony < a href = "../ catalog / 195">, Amethyst - violet, Hairy - rock crystal with inclusions of fine-needle crystals , Rock crystal < / strong> - crystals of colorless transparent quartz, Flint - fine-grained cryptocrystalline aggregates silica , Morion - black, Prasiolite - onion green, Rauchtopaz (smoky quartz) - light gray , Rose quartz - pink, Chalcedony - cryptocrystalline fine-fiber variety, Citrine - lemon yellow, Sapphire quartz - bluish, coarse-grained quartz aggregate, Cat's eye - white, pinkish, gray quartz with the effect of light shimmer, Hawkeye - silicified bluish aggregate gray, Tiger's eye - similar to falcon eye, but golden brown.

Quartz is resistant to chemical exposure, it does not react with common strong acids, it dissolves only in hydrofluoric acid. Alkalis also have practically no effect on quartz. The melting point of quartz is 1570 o C. Today, it is very common to find synthetic quartz on sale, which is comparable in price to natural quartz and is issued for it. Most often these are large beads, balls or magic crystals. They may even contain cracks or inclusions of air bubbles. Bubbles in natural crystals usually form in those places where the larger crystal has suppressed the smaller one and has grown on top of it, they seem to repeat a certain surface. Bubbles are still formed where there is a strong flow of nutrient (distributed in the volume, like a frozen flow). Light curtains are formed in places of tight junction (accretion) of parallel crystals (they give shine inside). Cracks are formed during sharp temperature changes during crystal formation. In the name, they are also not random (they go in the places of the greatest stress inside the crystal). In random places, nothing is formed, the crystals reject most of the impurities from themselves. Disordered individual small or large bubbles most often indicate synthetics.
